An exceptional off the beaten track expedition to Loikaw, the capital of Kayah State in the eastern Myanmar with the unique inhabitants of Padaung ethnic group, which reveals through the trails of hilly plateau of southern Shan State featuring the picturesque Lake Inle and serenity of Kalaw is truly an incredible journey.
Day 1 Inle Lake - Hpe Kom - Loikaw
Breakfast at the Hotel. Begin the journey with boat trip to Hpe Kom located at the far south of Inle Lake (approx. 6 hours). En route, visit Thar Khaung and Sagar villages to get insight into the unspoiled culture and traditional life-style of the ethnic Pa-O and Intha inhabitants in this unspoiled area. Enjoy the beautiful landscape, flowering trees and numerous settlements along the way. Upon arrival to Hpe Kom, a brief visit to this charming town and its market. Continue to Loikaw by overland drive for about 2 hours. Arrive Loikaw in the late afternoon. Overnight at a local Guest House in Loikaw.
Day 2 Loikaw
Experience a traditional breakfast in a local tea house and set off to visit the Demawso market where the crowd of spectacularly dressed hill tribe people trading their wares.
On the return drive, stop by at the villages of Ngwe Taung Dam and San Mone to observe the Padaung tribe, the women of which are famous for their elongated necks fitted with layers of brass rings. Overnight at a local Guest House in Loikaw.
Day 3 Loikaw
After breakfast at a local tea house, take a leisurely stroll around this colorful, interesting town. In the afternoon, visit the Kayah State museum, the Kayah traditional weaving workshop and ritual spiritual flagstaffs of Nats (spirit), which are used during the Kayah New Year celebrations in April. Proceed to Taunggwe Pagoda to enjoy the magnificent sunset views over Loikaw. Overnight at a local Guest House in Loikaw.
Day 4 Loikaw - Hpe Kom - Pin Laung - Kalaw
Breakfast at a local tea house. Depart Loikaw for an overland drive to Kalaw highlighted by the stunning natural beauty and panoramic scenery of the Shan plateau. The little towns of Hpe Kom and Pin Laung and some Pa O villages to be observed passing by. Upon arrival at Kalaw, transfer to the Hotel. Overnight at a Hotel in Kalaw.
